Encouraging state agencies to buy more food produced in New
York was a priority American Farmland Trust’s our No Farms No Food® Rally in Albany, New York this winter. Thanks to
your help, the Food Metrics Bill S. 4061/A.
5102 gained traction during the final weeks of this legislative session,
passing the New York State Senate on June 12 and the State Assembly on June 20.
The bill is now awaiting Governor Cuomo’s signature.
The Food Metrics Act requires state agencies to track the
state’s food purchasing practices and encourage state institutions to buy more
food grown on New York farms. Please help New York’s farmers increase their
sales while getting fresh, nutritious food grown in New York to people served
by our state institutions. Contact Governor Cuomo and urge him to sign this
important legislation into law.
