The release of "Farms Under Threat: The State of America's Farmland" in May 2018 sounds the alarm on farmland loss in the United States and sheds new light on where this loss is occurring the fastest.
This multi-year analysis is the most comprehensive assessment of the loss of U.S. farmland ever undertaken, including location, quantity, and quality.
In the coming months, additional releases will investigate what this loss looks like on a state-by-state and county-by-county level. A final release will assess a range of future threats to America's agricultural lands—including climate change, water quantity/quality, and increasing urbanization—to forecast potential impacts of farmland loss to 2040 and recommend effective policies that can help communities take action to protect local farms and ranches.
